Richmond gears, are they noisy?
Hi guys, I recently bought some 4:10 Richmond gears fm ebay and was planning on installing into my 89GT vert w/AOD. Some one told me they were noisy, and I should of gotten MotorSport brand. Is this true? Do you recommend the 4:10s for the 89? I also have an 85GT/AOD, that's built w/8.8 rear, posi and 3:08 which was were the Richmonds were intented for but the car's a long project.
Any advise would be appreciated.... Thanks...

I've got Richmond 3.73's in my 88GT, and I like them. They aren't noisy at all unless I am in reverse, but most cars whine a little in reverse. I'd buy Richmond again if I am ever looking for a different ratio.

When I purchased my gears I was told that Ford gears were the only way to go - not sure if it's true or not? But, I decided to go with the Ford gears becasue I didn't want to risk the "noiseness" issue and since there really isn't that much difference in price, I chose the Ford gears.
Ok, I'm rambling and probably didn't help one bit E

I've ridden in two cars with richmond gears and all I can say is, I'm glad they were in someone else's car and not mine. I've always used FMS and never had any problems.

I run 410 Richmonds and the are quiet...had 4+ years now...IT is all in a good set up and careful measuring...
BTW-the more teeth you put into a gear-it will make some noise to some degree...I can pick up a very little bit as I coast down with no load on the gears.... |

Ok, good info. I spoke another shop and said that the gears should not make noise, or very little. He said that as long as they are installed properly then the Richmonds should work fine. He mentioned that for some reason the Richmonds make noise in Chevy's.
Thanks.....PS $150 for the install. |
