Normal for shifting to be "sticky" at times on T5?
'Lo all.....
My 95 Cobra I've finally pulled outta the garage and am drivin around again......noticed that after driving awhile on the highway, pulling out of 5th to downshift to 4th, doesn't always want to go into 4th.....sometimes have to put back into , then back into 4th..riding clutch the whole time. ALso..sometimes...it doesn't want to get into 1st....from a stop, just doesn't wnat to go. Car is low miles, 13K on the OD......wasn't sure if this was a sign of the tranny fluid heating up...or not enough of it..or... just plain normal, no T5 being perfect ;) Anyone? Thanks! Brant |
Yea, dang t-5's never can be trouble free, your clutch cable might already be stretched too, or you need to adjust the self adjusting mechanism, pull up on it with your hand, then push down, you should hear a clicking noise, if that doesnt help, you might need a clutch quadrant, i just bought a D&D quadrant, with firewall adjuster, i'll let you know how it works after i get it in, because my clutch is new, but yet i struggle to get into gear after driving a while..

Balky T-5
Brant:
Standard T-5 performance. Mine did this when new and still does, at 116,000 miles on the original T-5, so not to worry. It's simply 'The nature of the beast'. It's possible but I doubt you need a clutch cable at 13,000 miles. Try the self-adjust first and if no improvement, consider draining the transmission fluid and replacing it with synthetic. It's what I use and it does help, although it's not a panacea for the sometimes-balky T-5. |
I've never really understood that "self adjusting" thing.
I've lifted up on the clutch pedal with my foot, my hand, and every time I feel like I'm going to snap the pedal off. I've never heard any clicking..... I rarely have to put the pedal down to the floor to shift...but when she wont go into gear, no amount of clutch helps that :) What would some signs be that my clutch cable is stretched out...do they make one that, essentially, won't wear out? |
Well i read an article that said the cable rarely stretches, it has something to do with the rubber thing at the firewall, it rubbs through and creates more slack, so this is why the firewall adjuster cures 'most' problems, so i hear, so im going to find out soon, i started to mut mine in (d&d quadrant, and frwall adjstr), but lost my dang needle nose pliers, this is going to be a (*$#% i know it....... but i'll post when i get it done.
sometimes at the track i have to force it into gear:( |
