Now Somethings Wrong Again!
Everytime I do a modification, something totally opposet that doesnt envolve it goes bad! Ok heres the problem Ive narrowed it down the the transmission or the rearend.
I jack the car up so I can drive it in a fixed position... I have loud Erattic metal rubbing/clunking noise (in 5th gear the worst) when its jacked up going. about 2,000 rpms and worse when its more. And the noise is gradually less from 5th..4th...3rd..etc.. gears. On the highway its the same! Nothing external is rubbing. The trans is kinda clucky when i shift, but its been that way sence i bought the car. I just replaced all the rear control Arm bushings with polyurethane ones. Anyone have a better idea on exactly what it could be? |
I know when you have a cracked flywheel they clatter or loose bolts on flywheel. Just a thought. Maybe someone else has more options for you to look at. Sorry I couldnt be of more help. Did it start just after the bushing install though?

U joints ?
Sure sounds like something rubbing ? If I read that post right and you mean your under that car with the driveshaft spinning, you better be real careful bud !!! That drive shaft will suck a shirt tail or hair up into it and well ... have you ever seen a human body wrapped around a driveshaft ??? Its an ugly picture ! |
not the joints
I had the Driveshaft off a month ago and the U-joints were solid!
I just had my head under, not my body. Im gonna take it into the shop in the morning $36 to check it over :( |
Now you have to vision
That in that gear ! you are lose ( a sloppy drive ) to put it losely !
what happens next is the vibration that you incur . I would disconnect your drive shaft ( mark it first with a paint pen or you no ) and rotate it 180 % south . And you will be a happy camper .;) |
what?
thats not gonna fix iT!!! it makes the car shake! and metal chattering erattic from rear end or tranz... how would rotating the driveshaft 180 degrees and them bolting it back up fix it????
|
Driveshafts are balanced, for one way installation. Get it off and it will vibrate.
|
Rotating the driveshaft 180 degrees is an excellent possibility. Especially since you recently had it out. It's not in the tranny, unless it's the output shaft, because the problem becomes more pronounced with vehicle speed, rather than engine speed.
I'd rotate the driveshaft and see if that doesn't fix it. Take care, ÅChris |
hmm
I marked the driveshaft when i took it off, I put it on exactly like I took it off. ITs going to the shop in a hour anyway, they'll know whats wrong. Its got 134K on it, and the gears were replaced with 3.55's a long time ago. I have a bad feeling that the Rear End is shot, becuase the problem has to do with speed of the drivline rotation and not RPM. Thanks though guys, I'll post what it is when i find out.
