Talking check engine light

i was wondering if someone could tell me why my check engine light keeps coming on in my 1995 mustang gt, my current mods to the motor are bbk 1 5/8" headers, stock h-pipe, borla cat-back exhaust with side pipes, msd ignition, and a k&n air filter, could any of these by the culpurit for my problem.

I would bet it has something to do with those headers. Did you just install them?
First, I would pull the engine codes and see what code #'s you pull and then go from there.

You're going to have to get the engine codes. I have done this many times on my 95 GT.

Buy your self a Haynes Service Manual, it will tell you how to pull the codes with a jumper wire and then tell you what the codes are. This is really the best way to do it.

If you want I can walk you through it, but the manual is worth the money if you plan on keeping the car anyway.

I'm assuming the O2 sensors are still in place and hooked up? If connected you may have a bad O2 sensor causing check engine lite.

I think I head somewhere that if you install headers then the O2 sensors get a false reading which causes the "check engine" light to come on.
I saw in a magazinie that there is a way to make a jumper wire to "trick" the o2 sensors into thinking "all is good" when you use headers.

Default check engine light

No, you should be able to run aftermarket headers along with the stock O2 sensors just fine. I do. No "jumper wire" required. But if you're '95 has alot of miles on the motor...then O2 sensors might be one of the codes that will show up when you do the check.

You can run aftermarket headers with stock O2 sensors - only issue you may see if you're installing long-tubes is you may have to extend the wires. You can do this one of two ways get same gauge wire and solder it on - or you can buy some O2 cable extenders for about $40.

If you've got over 100K on the car - may want to replace or atleast clean the O2 sensors.

You'll need either a jumper wire or a code reader to find out what code is causing the "check engine" light to come on. Since you can make a jumper wire very easily and cheaply it is the best way to to, IMO.
