A.O.D. to C-4 swap
I tried to do a search for this topic but all I got was a Msg. that said my search needed more letters, how do you add more letters to C-4. So any way whats it take to swap in a c-4 inplace of a P.O.S. A.O.D. and who has the best deal on one.

I'm also interested in this. I know it can be done but you need the correct bellhouseing and flywheel. You may also need a diff "kick dn" lever. I have the metal dn shift lever so this should be ok. - I do know that when looking for a perf C-4, they usually cost anywhere from $300- 500 less then an AOD. I certainly don't need the overdrive(weekest link I think).

Your swap will be an easy one! I did the same ,almost ,5spd to c-4 you can use the aod shifter you will need a shift lever that will bolt to a cable shifter this is out of production ( I have two) Also use the small bolt pattern bellhousing When people look inside your car they dont see the aftermarket shifter sticking out of the console this is a neat swap, and the neutral safety switch and backup lights will work let me know if you have any questions

Sounds good. How do you feel about the 3 speed? Don't regret the lack of overdrive?
Thanks.. |
what about the cross member, and what do i need to look for in a bell housing

I only drive my car about 2500 to 3000 mi a year ( weekends ) so a overdrive isnt much of a problem. I run 3.73 gears ,62 mph on the highway is all my ears can take! The crossmember you can break the spotwelds and move it foward, I used a 250 cu bellhousing from a Maverick , 200cu is too small, and used a 157 tooth flexplate balanced to 50 oz , more header room! you can use the aod flexplate with a 11" bell The small 250cu bell is also known as the 10.5 bell , J&w trans has these new! Talk to me if any questions Rich
