Default Oil Leak . . . .

Apparently there was a common problem with '79 Mustangs leaking oil... anyone know where from it leaked? My baby is leaking a fair amount of oil. I'm going to change the oil pan gasket this weekend and hopefully that works. Anyone know where it may be leaking from?

Thanks,
§am.

Uh, well, that's kinda hard to tell being that I can't see or inspect it. Can you provide a tad more info? But hey, check around. Maybe the rear main seal??? Where does it look like it's coming from?

...and I haven't heard that '79s leaked oil.... New one on me...

i know that most of the oil can be from anywhere. but as with any ford windsor 2 piece rear main, they always seem to leak after so many miles. that seems to be a common problem, but like Fox Body said, it is hard to tell without looking at it.

ok sounds good.... Sorry where is the rear main seal? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm just new to this whole thing with my car. =) It looks to be leaking oil from around the oil pan, so I'm going to check the oil pan seal Saturday and hopefully that is it. Cause I'm a newbie to repairing 5.0Ls so I don't know what I'm looking for.

I'll get some more info when I get under the car.

Thanks Again,
§am.

That is not a stupid question.

rear main seal is at the back of the motor. The round half circle part of the pan at the back of the motor. You can crawl under there while the car is on ramps and check it or anywhere else on the pan.

Thanks...

My dad's buddy who is a mechanic said he would power wash under the car and check to see where it's leaking from for me. So that's a plus, and he'll let me know how much it would cost to fix it, if it's something that I can't do I'll probably get him to do it but if it's something simple I'll probably just take it appon myself.
