Oil pressure is scaring me!! Help

Ok i have this weird problem! Whenever i push the clucht in my oil pressure drops right off the gauge! I mean below the L on the stock gauge! If i then tap the throttle just a bit it moves back to the halfway point! But it never runs higher thean halfway it is either halfway or low! What is going on!!!!! Oh yeah 91 gt 5 speed!

How many miles do you have?

oil pressure

I would like to know your mileage as well. Your problem may be a bad sender on the factory gauge or may be a low oil pressure issue that warants concern. As we all know the inaccuracy of the factory gauges, I would install one from Autometer and place the sender in the space presently occupied by the facotry sender. You could also try replacing the factory sender, but in the end you would still be working with a questionable gauge. The autometer will give you a true reading rather than just H and L and you will be able to get a good read on your motor from there. Oil pressure gauges only cost around $40 from Summit. If you don;t want to disable the factory gauge, you can build a simple T fitting with parts from Home Depot and run both senders that way. Let us know how it goes.

You can either check real oil pressure with a quality aftermarket gauge, or you can replace you existing sending unit and see what happens.

The aftermarket gauge is recommended.

I agree with the aftermarket guage. I would suspect that the sending unit is taking a dump. If you put the aftermarket guage on and it still does it then the next thing would be the oil pump going bad. If its not the oil puimp then well you know, bearings. I wouldnt think it bearings because 115,000 miles is just breaking in on a 5.0. :D Ive got 175,000 on mine and still kicking.

Mine does the same thing but it doesnt go below the low. It goes probably about the last line or two before the low. When i tap the gas it goes back to the middle. My car has 98k miles

You are still in decent shape if you have 20 psi when it's warm at idle, and 40 on the gas.
