oil pump problem in 86 camaro

hey i got a queston have any of yall heard of a oil pump doing this when i crank the car it has good oil pressure and when i drive it still has good perssure (most of the time 65psi) but when i stop i have no pressure unless i keep the gas to the motor its a racin oil pump in a 1986 chevy camaro z28 i just put the 350 in during the summer i pulled out a 305 HO during the summer it was a TPI motor i put a 350 with a carb and some stuff done to the motor

thanks matthew

Yeah, my electric stock gauge would fall on it's face if the motor was under 1000 rpm's. It turned out to be just the sending unit not reading under 1000rpm's.

Try getting a different sending unit.

Yup gauge first ask questions later! A drop in pressure at idle when hot is normal, but a tight rebuilt motor should still have 30 - 40 #'s at idle.
