I know the older motors had them but i'm not sure if they still use them or not ? How old is the book you're using ? They were there to "sling" oil up on the timing chain and protect the seal. If i were you i'd take a little trip down to the local ford dealer and ask around.
I'm really anxious to hear how your setup performs because its very close to what i'm putting together. Same exact cam, but i went with some longer rods (6.25") with a stroker 372 CU IN ... also a set of Roush 200's and i think i'm going with a Victor single plane intake. The big atvantage i'll have is its going in a 64 Falcon that weighs in at less than 3,000 lbs. Let me know how it runs and idles and such !!! If you run into any issues, i'll still have some time to send stuff back
