![]() Yes, they go through and will leak if you don't use thread sealer.

![]() DO NOT use RTV. Use thread sealer. RTV will affect your torque readings, thread sealer will not. If you can find it, get ARP Thread Sealer. Best stuff there is.

![]() I cant remember exactly for sure, but Im almost positive I didnt use ANYTHING on my head bolts that were in the water jackets, and I havent had a leak yet, been almost 4 years since I bolted the heads on, so I wouldnt worry to much about it.

![]() I would agree w/Mach 1. I've rebuild serveral motors and never used thread sealer.And they haven't leaked,. I'm sure that thread sealer might be good insurance though. My 2 cents..

![]() as far as i seen it is a necesity on studs mine had little bubbling from them so i took it off and used sealer and its fine now

![]() According to Haynes, Chilton's, and even the Ford book, you must use thread sealant (outer bolts only) on later model 5.0's. Why wouldn't you even if it WAS just a mild insurance policy? Haven't any of you guys looked into the bolt holes on a 5.0 block? There's the water jacket right there! Hence the rust on some bolts when removing the factory originals. Even when using studs I would highly recommend sealant, and NOT RTV. That stuff is pure evil IMHO, and has absolutely no place in a well-built engine...unless you like gasket failure as stated above.

![]() It really is a no brainer. Thread sealer is cheap and easy to apply, insures against leaks, acts as a thread protectant similar to anti-seize and won't affect torque readings now or later, like RTV and corrosion/rust will. If you're in a pinch, or on a desert island, don't sweat the small stuff. HeII, you could probably use bailing wire and electrical tape for spark plug wires if you were desperate, but if you're not, then why? If thread sealer is available, use it! It's not like it's any more effort (unless you develop a leak or a frozen bolt because you didn't use it!).
