Default overheating problem, need help

I have an 86 bottom end with 87 heads and a 86 intake. I've changed the radiator, cap, water pump, drained, checked oil and no signs of water. Changed heads and gaskets and still nothing there was water in the egr passage, any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.... email me with any number or anybody tat would be able to help. I've also heard that I need to drain the block, and change the freeze plugs
