Stuck in 5th gear, what happend?

Driving from AZ to CA today I slowed at the border and tried to change gears...I could not get into any gears except back into 5th. I got off at the next off ramp and blew through two stops to keep the car rolling. Got on the highway back towards AZ feathering the clutch in 5th...bad smells.

I got all the way home to Chandler AZ and was able to get into the gears again. I think I hear a rolling rattle in gear and the sound changes some as I push the clutch. It also fights a little when I run through the gears.

Stock clutch and cable.

I'm thinking throw out bearing. Any other ideas? Clutch cable? Quadrant? Trany?

My first inclination is to jack up the car and just replace the clutch, preasure plate, and TO bearing. Could it be anything else?

I'm thinkin tranny. If the clutch was not completely disengaging it should still pop out of gear on trailing throttle. Something inside is causing it to hang on to fifth gear. The second t-5 I rebuilt this month was doing the same thing in 4th gear. . .among other things. It turned out to be a blocker ring on 4th gear with about half the teeth broken off. Couple that with some really worn bearings and I had to rebuild.

I think it is the trans too. Happin to a friend of mine and all he had was 1st and 5th gear. It could be something else though...

Oh, and the oldest boy is turning his 89 GT into a FFR cobra this next summer.
