C&L 80mm MAF
Does anyone have any info on the C&L 80mm MAF
I have a 2001 GT and i see that it gave around 13 hp increase on a '96. Does anyone know what sort of power/torque increase i can expect on my car. Will my engine benefit with the better heads or will there be virtually no difference. ------------------ |

They're a bit of a debate of which is better between C&L and Pro-M. People have had reasonable gains with both. However, there are better things to throw your money at right now.
As far as heads. The SVO heads may be a bit better, but for a fraction of the cost of replacing them you could pull your heads, have them ported and polished to better then the SVOs. So don't worry too much about that just yet. The real question is, what have you done so far? And what are you looking for, and how much do you want to spend? |

Well I checked into this a few months ago and here's my suggestion. The gain is not very big compared to other mods. If you already have pullies, timing adjuster, offroad H or X, gears, shifter then a new meter may be the next thing to get after this stuff.
I looked at both meters and performance wise they claimed the same gains. Two things swayed me into buying the C&L. One price the C&L was $245 for the kit with filter and shield versus $400 for the Pro-M. Second was how it's calibrated. I plan on going with a blower or at least bigger injectors in the future. The C&L only needs a bigger sampling tube which can be bought for $40 instead of sending the meter to Pro-M to be calibrated for $75 which of course causes down time. As far as actual power gains from the mod I think there may be a good 5-10HP in it. My best times where run in 68* weather with low humidity. Now with the meter installed and 90* weather and high humidity I'm now running as fast as I was before. ------------------ 00 GT, MAC Offroad H, Steeda Pulleys & Timing Adjuster, 4.10’s, Flows w/turndowns, UPR shifter, UPR Pro Series LCA’s, Lakewood 70/30’s & 50/50’s, Weld Pro Stars, Kaenen Cobra R Hood, 253.8 RWHP/292.8RWTQ 12.91@101.93 (1.74 60ft) M/M 100, 7085 Recent Pic from Moroso |

But at the same time the fastest cars in any particular class I've seen have almost all seem to be running Pro-Ms. EDIT: Englirsh is my first language. [This message has been edited by 97snakedriver (edited 06-21-2001).] |

I like the C&L alot and it offered nice power gains of about 10-12rwhp on my car and I've had no problems with it since. I also got the C&L and the bassani X pipe off a wrecked Cobra for 250.00 which didn't hurt.
Like mustang92 said, take care of the other needs first and get the C&L to top it off. ------------------ formerly 96cobra89lx306 (96Cobra/softtop-3.73,almdrvsht,fancontrl,steeda sbfrmes+shifter,eibachspgs,KYB's,FR-upper arms,Saleen copy-polished 18's,pulleys,Bassani X pipe(gutted),C&L 80mm Cobra DYNO 301rwhp horsepower before gutting the X pipe 93 Ford Probe Gt(slower but turns) |

Although i'm not quite in everyone else's league as far as mods go (yet...) my Pro-M 87mm MAF definately helped. From what i've done so far, the MAF might seem like a waste of money but I got it very cheap along with FMS pulleys so I couldn't pass up the deal. Setting aside all the little pro's and con's of both meters I would think either would be a good choice.
Gains? Who knows. It definatley feels faster but i've never had it on a dyno. Brett ------------------ 66 Tahoe Turquoise Coupe Laser Red 96GT Ragtop 30 Years & 30 inches apart in the driveway! |
