Need help getting pilot bearing out of crankshaft...
O.K. Tried the grease method, not gonna happen. Don't have one of those nifty slide puller things. Any suggestions? Where can I get a tool to do this? Can I make a tool? Anywhere I can buy one cheap??? HELP!!!!! Mine was in good too. I tried the puller and it wouldn't budge. So I ended up using a chisel and a dremel tool and got it out. Good luck man!

Here's a old trick I learned from my dad. Pack the hole with soaking wet paper towel and use a punch or something that is just big enough to fit inside the hole to pack it in, the bearing will pop out due to the pressure of the towel and water, and it won't hurt a thing

You can rent a tool from the auto-part store for free usually (they just need a deposit on the tool). If you are having trouble getting it out with the puller, make sure you are biting on the little indentions on the back of the pilot bearing. (If you don't have a new pilot bearing, go buy one so you can tell where the indentions are and place the jaws of the puller in these indentions). I couldn't get mine out either, until I looked at the new pilot bearing and noticed the indentions. Otherwise there is nothing for the jaws to bite into. Good luck and let us know what happens.

I just took mine out today.
I used the backside of a chisel (it fit) and fortunately there was enough grease in the thing to work. make sure there aren't air bubbles and whack it a few times with a hammer just like the paper towel method above. I'm glad it worked, cuz i really want to get my car running! |

Yeah I wuz gonna say, pack that rascal with bearing grease, find the tightest fitting socket (without any interfernce) put it in backwards then put an extension in the hole to plug things up, give it a whack and hydraulic the sucker out of the crank.

Thaks for all the replies! I'll give it a try again Wednesday. I think the grease I was using was too thin. I'll use heavy grease this time.
