Default wich piston rings do i order?

im going to freshen up a stock short block for use while i build a real short block, my question is wich rings do i get/ i know they are 1.5/1.5/4.0mm but wich company do i go with or even better part #'s would kick *** BTW this is a blown application. thanks

I went with the Total Seal gapless rings on the last engine. I am thinking this is the way I will go from now on.

I also like the zero gap Child and Alberts set. These have quite a good record on race oriented vehicles. 11's at 123 mph qualifies for race orientation---don't ya think?

Make sure you have a shop check the rod ends for roundness. Do it with the bearings in the cap, bolted to 40/50/or 55 lbs, whatever you are using for the engine.

I would use head and main studs, and make sure you run a windage tray and a crank scrapper. This will give you an additional 15-20 horsepower EASY.

The zero gap rings should be good for 15-25 horsepower as well.

One last thing, are the pistons forged or hypereutectic?

You might want to run a low boost pully if these are not forged.

Go get them......

thanks for the replies gentlemen, i'll look into these this week, as im going to start the rebuild this week. BTW the bottom end im using is from an 88 mustang with the forged pistons my next shortblock is the one i plan on going all out on. this is just something to hold me over so i can still drive the car, wich i cant seem to drive enough
