please help!

Guys, I just got a call from the shop my car is at. They say my Block (from a salvg yard) is bad because the bolt that was holding the water pump is fused and cannot be removed. They say this is a common problem. BUt I have never heard of it in all the 5.0 and MMFF I have read! Is this bull? any info would be greatly appreciated

damn good question. never heard of that either. out of my friends' 30+ previous mustangs, they have never encountered that, so i wouldnt think its common

Hmmmmm. Thats a new one to me. Go down and check it out for yourself. I've seen many a 302's and 289, worked on a many of them and never had a problem like that.

I've had plenty of timing cover and water pump bolts break before, especially on the ol 289's but nothings ever been fused to anything. Sounds strange to me.

Be Careful my friend and I where going through his 289 for a '65 coupe, one bolt was "fused" I guess you could call itand wouldnt come out. We got real hefty with a breaker bar and they have that name for a reason. We broke the bolt loose but it also broke half of the threads out of the block closest to the outside edge. As you know the bolt runs through the gasket face. He had another friend weld the piece back on and fill the cracks with weld and machined it off flush with the true surface. We retapped the hole and it runs fine, no leaks, but be careful.

Thanks guys. I went to look today and it damn true! I even helped torch the the bolt and tried to remove the broken stud. After some talking the shop is giving me a good block for 50. So I lost 25o in a block but paid 50 for another! Only 300! Doing Ported stockheads, e303,1.70 rockers. Edelbrock intake. What ya guys think?
