Post please help fast?????? timing question

what do i need to disconect before i set my timing and where is it located?? it is an 88 5.0. i looked at the chilton and it siad that i should not try to set the timing is this true???

the spout plug, it's on the end of the driver side injector harness. Should be to the right of the distributor.
