First, and most importantly WHY won't it go down to .26"??? What is happening to this cyl that IS NOT happening to the others?

Secondly, what the hell kinda solid cam are you running that calls for .26" lash????? JEEEZUZ! That's over a quarter of an inch!!!

Don't make sense over here in Buckeye Land dude!

Didn't mean to offend. Just that .26 is a pretty large valve lash. The engine must really make some valve noise at that setting.

And I'm trying to help. But....when you have solid rollers, screw in studs, roller rockers and correct push rods there isn't much left to take up space so you can't tighten them down.

Dumb question, I just thought of.....are you using poly lock type lock nuts on the rockers?? If you are, you have the allen screw screwed out enough to allow it to go on the stud far enough. It isn't buggered up or anything is it?? If you screw the adjuster on the stud, without the rocker does it go on as far as one of the others that you're not having problems with??

Sorry but I don't think anyone who torques the heads down with the pushrods installed should be wrenching on a "9 second" car.

I don't think anyone with such bad grammar/spelling should be wrenching on a 9-second car. This has to be a joke right?

Man you guys aint going to cut me a break are you, Let me start over my Brother who really dont know much about Motors, He bought a 84 5.0 with a 383 stroker we ran the at MIR. 4 OR 5 Times at first it went a 10.40 then a 10.20 and anyway its was running 10.0s and once he went a 9.97 at 143 mph, Make a long stroy short he wanted to go 9s everytime so i contacted the Man he got it from and he said the Trick Flow heads were out of the box so i told him to have the heads P/P And it should but him in the 9s, So he had them done and when it came time to put the heads back on i went over his house and i set the heads on the block and put the nuts on finger tight and i had to meet my wife at Lowes to pick out some doors and i told him just clean the valve covers ECT. And have everything ready to put back on, Intake Carb. ECT. So i was gone about a hour or so and i walked up to the car and he had a big smile on his face and said look what we got done he had some guy there and they desided to torque the heads down but not knowing they put the push rods, roller rockers on and he said he just finger tighten the poly nuts on before they torque the heads down. So i took the rocker arms off and retorque the heads down he needs to use the soild copper head gaskets i torqued the heads down to 105 lbs. and put everything back togather and something had to happen to the #8 cid. the nut bottoms out and there is about 0.045 they should be 0.026 sorry about miss leading you with the spec. the first time, So i changed push rods rocker arms and lifters still no adjustment, Dont know what to do next, ANY ADVICE WOULD BE GREAT, THANKS, CAR9FAN

What is the difference between this car/problem and the one from Ordyguns on the Classic Mustang section. They are very similar.

Did the threads in the head stud get galled up, not allowing the nut to go any further? Or is it possible the allen screw in the center of the poly-lock is too far down while setting the preload?

NINE second car and you have to ask about valve lash????

Time to find a new mechanic, and I don't care if he IS related!

You outta KNOW more about that engine bro! This just don't make sense. When I was running 11's I knew EVERYTHING about that engine, and I could literally tell if something wasn't right by the feel of the shifter!

9 sec cars aren't cheap to build, or maintain. If it really IS that fast, ya outta tighten up the reins on her a bit. Don't let just any monkey with a wrench work on that thing!

Just my $.02 mandingo!!!

I Agree someone who knows nothing about a push rod V8 motor should not be working on it, But that said he want to learn about the motor and being his Brother i will show him what i know, I Rebuilded my first 289 when i was in high School and i do it has a HOBBY, Back to the car its just barly getting in the 9s and like all of us we always want to go faster. I think i told you it was a 69 351 w, Stroked out to a 393 and its a rollor cam come to find out all it was, Was the allen screw inside of the adjustment nut on the rocker,WE will be at MIR RACEWAY Sunday for test and tune if you want to come and watch iam hoping for some 9.70s mybe 60s, Have A Good One, CAR9FAN
