Anybody use Lincoln VII calipers?
I was wondering if anybody used the Lincoln VII front calipers on their fox? do they work better? how much are they?
I assume they work better since they're for a heavier car? |

For about 18 bucks a wheel you can transform your brakes into something that resembles real stoppage. I would recommend getting a master cylinder from the same car as well. If you want the most bang you can get out of these get some new brake lines too, braided if you can swing it. You'll notice a difference as soon as you squash the brake pedal.

I have the mustang performance handbook part 2: chassis and suspension, and according to the author the 73mm (??) calipers from the '87 to '88 Mark VII will work well for good stoppage, and bolt directly in. I'm going to do this as well once i get the spindles/struts from a later model. I've heard it works well for street use.

Umm unless you know something I don't,Mark7s and Continentals are both 5 lug wheels and use larger rotors? I can't see how calipers would work on mustang...I would think putting a mark master cylinder ona fox is asking for trouble cus we have 4 wheel anti lock discbrakes...Well contis have abs Idunno bout the non lsc Marks...You should talk to Bigant on this forum or paul at www.svpu.com this guy sells parts for lincolns and stangs and should know all that stuff

I know for sure that the ABS Lincoln Mk VII
LSC master brake setup will NOT work - it's a special hi pressure hydraulic electric pump - no vac booster - and is like $1200 - not to mention the ABS stuff. Now, some had non-ABS but all I know about them is that they're lots cheaper so ??? You DO want master cylinder volume to match the calipers, maybe a T-Bird setup? |

ok. . .for the naysayers here. . .I have a 1989 GT in my drive with the calipers from a 87 mk7 on the front and the rotors are the stock Mustang rotors. The calipers have zilch to do with anti-lock brakes as that part of the braking system is attached to the rear half. I walked into NAPA and asked for some calipers and brake pads for a 87 lincoln and walked out about 48 bucks lighter and the brakes immediately felt like a different car. THe thing stops now. They've been on the car for about 2 years now so I don't think there's gonna be a problem with the change.

I've heard the only difference between the calipers on the Mark VII (which is a fox body like the mustang) is that the lincoln ones have larger pistons in the calipers and that they bolt on easily. The diameter of the rotors is the same (i believe 11 inches). This brings up an interesting idea, using the Mark VII rotors (5 lug) to convert from 4 lug. I don't think the spindle should be any different from the Mark VII and the mustang, but i may be wrong.

Unfortunately, no we never put the Lincoln master cylinder on. THe brakes showed such a big improvement with the stock one we never switched. I think it may happen this month though as the F-303 I put in the new engine killed all the vacuum and I think it's time to give it a little more oomph. As for the rotors being the same. . .I am not knowing. THe price is the same for both the 5 lug Mustang as the Lincoln so I never investigated that part.

i've heard when you put on the bigger calipers(lincolns) it takes a lot more pedal travel for them to work good? did you notice the diference in pedal travel?

I tried putting in the 88 Mark VII calipers but the brake hoses don't fit, what should I do. How come nobody wrote anything about this, or am I blind & missing something here? Please help.

Sorry, I'm on vacation and not doing web stuff much this month.
1. Yes, the pedal got a little mushy and seems to get a little closer to the floor. 2. I used the stock brake lines on the 89 so I am not knowing about the mismatch |

I believe that ranger front 5 lug rotors will accept the mustang bearings and fit right on also. And while we are at it try the ranger rear 5 lug axles also, i think right side only fits.
