Polishing heads, Is it worth it?

I have been weeks porting my heads. Tonight I polished the chambers and the exhaust ports. Is there any advantage to this? I mean, really, or is it just a waste of time?

All motor I'd say you were/are wasting your time. Polishing the chambers, and particularly, smoothing sharp edges and bumps, will improve resistance to detonation by eliminating potential hotspots.

A porter told me that polishing the I/E ports was worth 1-2 cfm.

Polishing the chambers stops carbon biuld-up, which would kill power over time.

I had a visitor a few days ago. A freind that has a 10.20 car. He said that he has seen so many ported heads, that it is unimaginable. I asked him to look at my heads. He said that of all he has seen, that mine were the best ever. That felt good. Then he asked if I would do the ones on his car (?...)

My port job, 1 intake and 1 exhaust was done by Darren Dakoty, and I coppied the rest. So It is really his "PORT JOB" just - $700.00 out of my pocket. And for him to polish would have been quite a few hundred more.

So I port and polish on. Thanks for the positive response fellas.
