Poll for what should I buy next?

This is my first time with a poll so, I need everybodys input. In case you did not read my post in the Street Racers Corner, my car just belted out 298HP and 324TRQ to the wheels. Being how that is never enough, I need YOUR opnion on what I should buy next. Lets just say that any of the 3 power machines will make me happy for a long time. The car will see a fair amount of street and track use. I will trade all out track times for MPH times. So let me know what you guys (and chicks:cool: ) think I should get.

fiveohpatrol 10-02-2002 11:32 PM

If its not a daily driver, then I'd go with the turbo setup.

If it is a daily driver, then I'd go with a centrifugal blower, either Novi 2000, or Vortech S-trim. The kenne belle blowers make boost instantly and they make it very hard to get any kind of traction on the street.

btw, you are making some pretty good numbers with the stock cam and edelbrock heads. Are the heads ported at all?

gofastmercury 10-02-2002 11:40 PM

Just a thought, 12.9 @ 109?? Maybe you should get some traction. That mph should be good for very low 12's, like 12 flat.
I'd go turbo, Just because I think there neet.

TWIN TURBO

everybody's got a supercharger, plus you'll get more out of a good turbo setup.

Ackbar00 10-03-2002 05:25 AM

The car is not daily drvien. Although I drive it a fair amount in good weather. I got some ET Streets to cure the traction issue, but my track races on Thursdays and its going to rain for third straight week. Do not want a centrifugal blower, everbody has one. Thought about a Twin setup, but it looks awfully had to do any work on the car once it is in place. fiveohpatrol, the heads are stage 1 ported by Fox Lake. It is also a full weight GT.

What about nitrous?? 150 shot will put that thing in the 11's!

Ackbar00 10-03-2002 06:44 AM

Nope, have to refill the bottle. I am Lazy.

302 LX Eric 10-03-2002 08:13 AM

My quick comments...

1) I would be leary putting a turbo or blowzilla on a stock bottom end that's already making 300 rwhp or ~360 at the crank. IMO you'll put alot of money into the turbo/blower/fuel system and then break something.

2) A 408 would make a ton of power and would be unique. Plus a new 408 would be reliable power for many years.

3) I'm not sure what kind of clutch, tranny, axles, rear-end you've got...but consider these in your decision as well. All that power could easily destroy a T-5 or stock axles with ET Streets on them.

Just some thoughts.

E

The T-5 is the weak point in my current setup. Whatever I get I may not have the money to upgrade the tranny at that time. I was leaning towards the 408, but there are a lot of things you have to change in order to make it work. The guy i talked to at Turbo Technology told me that the street kit would be fine on my bottem end as log as i left the boost at the "stock" setting. If i got a blower motor, I would someday get a new short block. Kenne Bell also advertises that it would be fine on a stock bottom end. So, thats why i started this pool. To get as many different opnions as i could

302 LX Eric 10-03-2002 09:35 AM

That's cool. I see where you're coming from.

If you keep the boost down, you would probably be ok for a while.

Take it easy,
E

Ackbar00 10-03-2002 02:32 PM

I would hope that it would be ok for a while. But than again, its only money:D

ultraflo 10-03-2002 02:53 PM

I went for the 408... build a stout bottom end and solid driveline and THEN put a turbo kit to it :D JMO...

I would've said "get a nitrous kit," but that's already been addressed ;)

Whatever you choose... having power and being able to put that power to the pavement are two different scenarios, keep in mind... the guy that makes X amount of HP more than the next guy who has a solid combo, doesn't always make it to the end of the track first (or to the next stoplight) :D

I'd address the trans., driveshaft, suspension, and rear end.... before putting more power to it than the car can handle ;)

Ackbar00 10-03-2002 03:02 PM

Ultraflo, What is your bottom end. I know its a 351 block, but whice one are you using and what did you pay for your short block? Also, what turbo kit are you using for a 351? Everything has been addressed except for the T-5.

JaxTheDJ 10-03-2002 03:05 PM

If you get those 60's down you will find the speed you want,First I would get battle boxes for the torque box, then a good set of aftermarket uppers and lowers with poly or solid mounts, move the battery to the trunk and THEN work on the supercharger setup,no matter how much power you make,ya gotta put it to the wheels. my .02

ultraflo 10-03-2002 03:15 PM

I hate it when I do that....

...VERY poor phrasing on my part! I VOTED for the 408...

I use the block that came with my '93 from the factory... it's been prep'd and girdled, bored to a 306 and I spray the crap out of it with a 200hp single nozzle wet kit (NX)

My apologies sir :) ...if I had a 408 and a turbo I had better be running in the 7 second range in the 1/4mile!!!!!!! :D

An early, seasoned 351 block or one of the Sportsman 351 blocks avail. from Ford Racing would be fine candidates for a 408 stroker motor... bolt up a street turbo kit and hold on to your shorts!

A Tremec TKO would be a good investment for street use... pro-shifted if you plan on getting the most out of the combo on the drag strip. I'm partial to the Jerico DR4 unit, however :D ...you have to re-learn how to drive with one on the street.

Ackbar00 10-03-2002 05:50 PM

JaxTheDJ, Have battle boxs, HPM upper and lower. Also have an Eaton Diff. with 31 spline axles, Motorsport driveshaft and battery is in the hatch. My current 60 ft's SUCK because 17 In. Drag Radials dont work that great at the track. Hopefully me ET Streets will solve the traction issue.

ultraflo, Sorry about that, Sounds like your combo gets it! A Tremec TKO is in the future or mabey a T-56.

Hey not to mess up your train of thought but how about a cam??? If i was right that you said you have a stock cam?? Well in your case you could probobly get 50 or more horse with a custom cam. But if your trying to make power with a stock cam for a reason then ignore this. I have a friend for some reason who wants to go 12.50 with a stock throttlebody.

Ackbar00 10-03-2002 08:07 PM

A friend of mine went 11.90's with the stock TB(but had a different cam in it). I will get a cam, but dont want to get one till I know what to get. Cause blowers, are different from turbos, are different from big windsors.... Etc.
