This was 4 vehicles ago, but no, I never had any trouble at all. In fact, that same setup kept a '64 Ranchero with a built 306 cool with a little Pinto radiator! That still surprises me. Anyway, yeah, I feel the fan t-stat works best on the bottom of the radiator. That was how they always used to instruct you to do it, but now they have it stuck into the rad. inlet, and that's not accurate. I can guarantee you the temp there will be pretty much what ever your t-stat is. I think that is pretty stupid, but who knows. I'm sure they have some reason for doing it that way. I won't, but you can.
