I don't think so. It doesn't go through the computer or anything. It's either told to be on, or off by the sender.
If there is fuel in the tank, and the light is on, then I would venture to say the sender is bad, or the wire is shorted. Most warning lights have 12v+ all the time and are switched on and off through the ground circuit. If the wire to the light is grounded, the light is on.....
