Short belt for water pump only?
What size belt would I need to only turn the water pump. For racing use only of course. Also are there any brackets made for the 4.6 SOHC to delete the A/C??? Any comments would be appreciated

You have to run the alternator too! No doubt about it u have to run the alternator. It powers your battery and your spark needs all the voltage it can get. dont run without an alternator!!

I had a guy tell me to take the belt off! Yeah right I said I might run w/o an alternator but not without a water pump! Any way I still need to know the size I would need to run just the alternater and water pump???????

Your belt also runs your power brakes. Look for power elsewhere.

OK, forget it, but I still want to delete the air conditioner. Are there any brackets or stuff like that like there is for a 5.0? What about if I just took it off and got a smaller belt?

Yeah, you can do that 97Aztec. I know of guys doing it all the time. Go to Saleen's web board "tecktalk". They can tell ya. I think I have a MM&FF article on it too. Pretty sure I do. You can't hardly run the car much. Start it at the line, shut her off at the end (after you've slowed down) But yes guys it can be done. Take a battery charger or another battery with you too.

Hey how did you like my old beater truck, pretty cool huh! Believe it or not I used that old turd of a Chevy to pull me over 100 miles to the track last summer! Twice!

I thought that your power brakes ran off of your intake, or is that just a Chevy thing? My buddy had to drill a hole in his intake to allow for his power brakes on his nova.

Pretty nifty. How long were you behind me? I didn't even notice you till that stop light. I don't know about the power brakes but that sounds too weird to be a Ford thing. Probably just chevy.

Ok, I am still going to lose the A/C. What size belt will I need and/or are there any brackets made? I would like to just take it off and get a smaller belt but what size do I need or how could I find out?

I dont think you would gain anything by removing the a/c. When the a/c is turned off the compressor is nothing more than a idler pulley. I think the money spent to remove the a/c and get a smaller belt would be better spent on a set of pulleys. I would be suprised if you gained any hp by doing this.
Im also sure it gets hot back east. |
