Stock heads/intake on 347?
 
what kind of power do you think someone could make with mild porting on stock heads and intake with a 347 stroker? Would it be worth running or would it be worth the money to get a GT40 setup or aftermarket? I have a set of heads with new valve job, they've been ported and polished and I'm thinking about putting them on a 347. Thanks guys,

I can't say how much power you'd get with that combo, but I know a lot of people on here frown on the use of stock ET7E heads even with a ton of work put into them like mine.

Mine are on the stock block with a bunch of other mods and I am very happy with the power my car is making with them. They were shaved .030, ported and polished, and had a 3 angle valve job.

With the added cubes of a 347 though, I probably wouldn't want to use that engine as a guinea pig for a set of stock heads. I'd try to find some better flowing heads myself.

And the intake - forget it. Unless you went with some expensive extrude honing you probably wouldn't get enough air flow through that thing to get the engine to run at all - LOL, jk.

If your short block is still doing fine why not get a cam, intake, TB, MAF, injectors, and maybe some long tube headers? Then you would have a pretty good setup to dump onto a Stroker block when you get one.

See, that's the problem, my block isn't gonna last much longer. When I put the HO cam in the cam bearings are pretty worn and I know the main bearings are because I've getting barely any oil pressure. It runs fine, but I don't think it will last long at all. Also, it's not an HO block, it's the stock cougar block that has flat top pistons so as far as a cam goes, I'm told the HO is the best I can do. So, sounds like maybe I should look into getting an old 302 and boring it over, new pistons, rods, bearings and all. Anyway, thanks for the help.

With worked stock heads? Why not get a set of GT40P's or GT40's? They won't cost much more than working stock heads, and they'll flow better.

Anyway, even those heads would be pretty restrictive on a 347. As far as the intake, it's no help to you either.

I'd say you may pull 260-280hp with that combo. Hardly worth it.

I'd just throw a 302HO in there. Pick up a used HO motor with low mileage up for a 200-400 dollar expense. Throw some GT40P's, an Explorer intake, E cam or something close to that. With all that, you'll still be way cheaper than a 347 kit, and you'll be making closer to 300hp if you have the SD system tuned well. (Or is that baby MAF?) Even if you get an HO motor and rebuild it, you'll still be cheaper than the 347 kit man.

300hp should get you well into the 13's.

Okay, so now I'm thinking I should get a 302 and rebuild it. I was hoping on using the heads I have because they've been ported and had a valve job, and I've got an intake that I'm attempting to port myself, but Anyway, seems like everyone thinks a rebuilt 302 would be the best way. Anyway, thanks for the help, I'm still thinking way too far in the future, I still need to swap out my rear end (TC rear with 3.73s coming soon!! yeah!!)
