PLEASE HELP!

How do you get lines apart that connect to the fuel rails? They have that big round connetor on them like the ones on the A/C lines going to the condenser and I can't figure out how to get them apart.

you need to go to the parts store and get a the fuel line disconect tools... about $10

Five0 03-12-2001 11:06 PM

You can do that or if you want to do it for free and you are cheap like me http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif you can get a plastic cap off a Pepsi bottle and cut the top off of it and cut it to fit around the line and push it into the spring in the line lifting the spring and then pull the fuel line apart. It works if you don't have the right tools.

Well, I broke down when I was at the parts store and bought the tool. It was only $5 at Advance Auto parts so I said hell with it and got one.

All right. I can feel the tool is pushing the spring in but the lines aren't budging. What gives? Do you have to stand on one foot and hop up and down to get them apart or what? Please reply quick as I'm desperately trying to get the heads off today and still have to get these lines apart before I can get to the intake.

Once you get the tool in there push the lines together then pull them apart. Works all the time.

If you are sure you are using the correct tool and it is engaging in there, then the lines are just simply "stuck" together...give it some more elbow grease man...

Also, you could get the heads off with the fuel rails intact. It kind of sucks, but you could pop the rail off of the intake and swing it over to the passenger side of the engine compartment. It will be in your way, but at least you can accomplish your goals for today...and worry about the damn thing later

That's what I ended up doing Green92LX. I got the lower intake off finally. Now I am ready for the heads. But I still want to get them apart just for the simple fact that they're pissing me off! I've tried elbow greese. I even tried a hammer. I've pushed, pulled, and yanked, and cussed, and nothing is working. I even tried it on the old A/C lines so I could see what I was doing a little better and they won't budge either. Would penetrating oil get in there at all to loosen these things up?

This tool I bought said it was for Ford A/C and fuel lines and has 4 different sizes on it. There is only one size that fits the lines and I am pretty sure I have it engaged all the way. Maybe if I can get Five0 to come over and bring his Pepsi cap LOL.

If you are POSITIVE that the tool is clickin in there, then its just a matter of beating the $hit out of them to break em free

They are just spring loaded little bastards, but they do put a hurtin on ya and piss you off pretty quick... http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/mad.gif

Just try squirtin some penatrating fluid in there as well as twisting them instead of just yankin...

May the force be with you http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

Ah, hell with it. I guess I don't have to get them apart. I just hope I never NEED to get the damn things apart because it'll probably come down to me getting a hacksaw and getting rid of those things for good.

Why does everything have to be such a pain in the @ss? I'm finally down to the heads and just realized I forgot the breaker bar at work that I was going to bring home to use on these heads. Geez!

Anyway, thanks a bunch guys. I couldn't have not done it any better without you hehe http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

I feel your pain... no matter how many times I have managed to get them apart, that's brobably one of the most PITA things to get undone in a Stang... Grrrrr Good luck!! I just pushed the tool in as hard as i could and just kind of wiggled (for ever) and then it would come off...

if you unbolt the bracket that holds the steel line to the side of the block you can push the whole shebang out of the way.... just put the rail assembly into plastic bag so the gas doesn't drip all over you engine compartment... i never disconnect them its a pain in the arse. just set them aside.

To me the plastic tools work better than the metal one that have different sizes. You can get more leverage with the plastic ones. It sounds to me like your are not engaging the tool all the way around the spring, that is why I use the plastic ones.hope this helps
