New Paint-How soon can I wax?

I just got my '86 out of the paint shop. It has been stripped down to the metal and refinished with a nice base/clear. I remember hearing that there is a waiting period for the paint to solidify before I can apply a good coat of wax. Does anyone have any idea how long I should wait?

Why don't you just ask the paint shop. I would say at least 3 months. To make sure it stays on.

Yes that is right, the wait is about 120 days. I know it is hard, but you should wait, you can however wash with a mild soap-wash, within a week, depending on type of paint and clear was used. I know with PPG, you can wash as soon as 1-2 days after. Hope this helps.

reccomended 90 days with a good wax(look for a wax with carnuba oils in it) can do as early as 60.
shouldnt be needed before that

I work i used to work in a body shop that did streetrods and other very very high dollor stuff when i left we did an airplain thet had a price tag of over 15,000... we waxed the paint 2 -3 days later, left the shopp looking great and stayed looking great.... that is just what we did... i AM NOT saying it is right or wrong...

My future son-in-law is a school trained & GM certified body man at a dealer. I asked him what I should use on my wife's pearl paint - he said don't use wax but a synthetic like Nu Finish. I had bug droppings on it which were nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get off before I applied. It went on easy, some more drops in the same spot later that nearly FELL off - amazing stuff - REALLY slick, dirt doesn't stick hardly at all. Only had a chance for 1 coat before cold weather, still looks fabulous after lots of washing. I got it at a plain old cheapy auto parts.

I work for a body shop and we wax/buff the cars 2 days later after they get painted.

Ill say it again, 60 days is the min, if the paint is fresh, you can wetsand & polish it(most paint shops will do it anyways, so it looks like "GLASS"), but it shouldnt need to be waxed for 90 days after paint
