The Red302 lives!!!!!!

Finished it up this weekend. Switched from the JBA shortys to the BBK longtubes, and put in the King Cobra clutch and FMS flywheel set-up. Since the car was in the garage waiting for the snow to melt anyway, I took my time with the project. Cleaned stuff up real good and got rid of some leftover emissions related clutter in the engine compartment too. The headers fit really well, but the short off-road H-pipe was a real pain it the @ss! Had to bend the tubes apart about 3 inches, and cut and re-weld one of the hangers to get it to line up. Took it for a ride today and it really doesn't sound much different than it did with the JBA's, but I'm hopeing to pick up a little on the top end. The clutch is great. Pedal pressure is just a little stiffer than stock, but it's smooth and grabs much better. Now we'll see what happens when the track opens. All I can say is...two tenths baby, just give me two little tenths!!!! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif

Bob I gotta say,you've got one SWEET L00kin 85GT!!

I had one before I bought the 87GT that I have now,I miss it alot.

I'll bet your ET goes down AT LEAST a couple tenths also with the extra breathing that the long tubes are gonna give ya http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif

Why was the H-pipe so messed up? Is it a BBK H-pipe?

Did you get the chrome BBK long tubes?

Did you have to undo the steering shaft to install the driver side header?

What about the starter on the passenger side? How much room is inbetween it and the header, and did you have to take out the starter to install the header?

Mustanguy...Thanks man, I appreciate that! http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/biggrin.gif
rtz...Yea, it's a BBK off road H-pipe, just didn't line up very well even though its made for '79-'93. Yep they're chrome longtubes, couldn't see spending the extra cash for ceramic coated ones. The chrome plating isn't that great, but they shouldn't rust. I had the tranny and clutch out so it was easy, I just put 'em up from underneath. If you unbolted the motor mounts and jacked the engine up, I don't think you'd have to take the steering shaft off but it would be easier if you did, and the starter is no problem even after the headers are bolted up.
