Starting Problems (s-trim)
 

I have the mods listed below on my car with the stock distributor and tfi module.
Today, my car would not start. It would crank and crank and crank, but would not start. I heard both of my fuel pumps priming, but it was like it was getting no fire. After my classes today, I tried to start it again, and the damn thing fired right up. What could be the problem??? Could it be the TFI module...what???

P.S. I had this problem sometimes before I installed the S-TRIM, so I'm 99% sure that the MSD-BTM has nothing to do with it.

that's electrical, check your wiring, especially grounds, at the solenoid and the starter, could be ignition switch in the column going bad, had recall on that you know...starts fires.

I agree that it sounds electrical. However, the starter grounds by being bolted on, so if it was working, I doubt that's your problem. Also, if the fuel pump(s) come on when the key is turned to the on position, I doubt it's the ignition switch. My vote is for the TPI module.

PKRWUD is right, starter is grounded by being bolted on, I knew that, I just wanted to get you under the car and see if ANY thing was wrong with the starter wiring, guess I should have cut to the chase, MAN! I love this Mustang site, way better than Corral, you guys aren't so f'in uptight. As far as the ignition switch, he's right over me there again, if pumps go on your good to go.

I had an 86 that would crank all day but not start, it was the TFI module.

OKAY HOT SHOT'S, FOR A SHINY NEW DIME.....WHAT DOES TFI STAND FOR.

AND IF YA KNOW THAT, WHAT MAKES A 87 AND UP TFI BETTER THAN AN 86?

I've had the same thing happen to me a few times. If I push the gas pedal to the floor and hold it there, it cranks right up. It hasn't happened in a month or so, so I had pretty much forgot about it until I read this post.

No not at all dude, I didn't think you were rude at all, I was just correcting myself in that post.

Close!, TFI means, Thick Film Integrated Module.

And the reason a 87 is better than an 86, is because the 86's were blowin right and left, so Ford put a heat sink in the 87's and up to reduce heat build up

Did you know that the coolant temperature senders, not the sensors, but the senders from 93 and up are way more accurate than 92 and down, look for the green top.
