Baumann Engineering TCS
Does anyone know much about the Baumann Transmission Control System? I saw it on their website and it looks pretty cool. I have one concern though. I'm trying to build a 351W stroker motor with an automatic. I thought about putting an AOD or C4 behind it, but I don't wanna mess with a kickdown linkage or a TV cable. With something like this Baumann controller could I use an AODE or 4R70W and not use a TV cable?

I just put a c-4 in mine, went with a trans go full manual shift kit so no auto shifting and no kick down. part # 70-4

I thought about that but I can't be constantly shifting up and down. My ultimate goal is a fully automatic tranny that doesn't require a kickdown or TV cable.

That's exactly right - you can totally control an /E (or I believe the 4R70W also) with that box, line pressure, up and down shifts, etc. Check out the "waterbox archives" at www.alternativeauto.com for a very good article on that unit.
Send me your email (macx@eoni.com) if you'd like some good info on putting together a very stout electric AOD using mostly factory parts from certain years/models of the 4R trans, and which one of those (totally interchangeble with an /E) that HAS all the good parts in it and that WILL bolt to w v8. About all you need is a good quality converter (Precision @ www.converter.com, or www.levelten.com, don't know if Lentech's converters fit a trans without their valve bodies, or Art Carr are some good ones). |
84_GT350,
The Baumannator TCS cost $400 w/o the ac adaptor and $425 with. I bought an ArtCarr AODE off the classifieds that can handle over 800+hp and got a TCS. You will not need a tv cable like a standard AOD. You will need a TPS (throttle position sensor), trans wiring off a 94-95 mustang, and other stuff. I have a 65' mustang that I am putting this trans in with a 289. I'm SLOWLY building up my car. First a good trans, next a 9 in rear end, then finally a 393, 500+ stroker:D Of course this is all going to take time and $$$. My car has been in the shop since Aug 9 and is still in there. LONG STORY. Personally, get a Pro who knows about transmissions only, because there is going to be a lot of customizing. LOTS. I mean with wiring everything, cross- member, shift linkage, etc!!! It's a real pain b/c the mechanic I have doesn't have time b/c of two jobs and he is so damn slow!!!! Email is llice65@hotmail.com if you have any questions. I check my email twice a week. I'm in college, have a job, and no computer, so bear with me on the emails. |
