Hey (speed density) people........is this guy right or what??

Ok heres the deal, this guy that I work with builds race car engines for serious drag racers. IHRA cars and stuff like that, he tells me that if I get some Mickey Thompson slicks, finaly weld in my sub-frames and let him port and polish my heads and intake and do a 3 angle valve job along with, a B303 cam, FPR and 24# injectors that I can drop from a 14.79 to a 13.5-13.7.

I am a little skeptical but he will do the work to my heads for $260.00, and the intake for $100.00. I already have 24# injectors sitting in the shop.

LS1's only run 13.7-14.0 where I live cause of the altittude so if this guy is right I could make some serious cash on the street with my stock looking vert.

So all together the new stuff I would have would be.

Slicks
sub-frames
port and polished heads
port and polished intake
24# injectors
FPR
B303 cam

Does this sound like it would drop a second off of my E.T. to you???

Thanks in advance "Be brutaly honest cause I dont want to waste my money"

I believe him.

Take care,

I'd say it's definately possible, especially with some good driving.

Just the slicks would knock off 4-5 tenths. And all the other stuff would knock off I'd guess 4 tenths plus. So yeah I think you'd DEFINATELY have a 13 second car. Good luck with it.

1BAD89 12-02-2001 02:48 AM

Ok I take back the slicks comment. I didn't see that you were running DR's. So knock off a tenth or maybe two for the slicks, maybe none....A bunch of people are actually running faster with DR's. I would think with all that, you'd be pretty close to 13's.....but you never know, until you try it!

Those times are definately posiible.

Yeah, it should run mid 13's or so. But ditch the 24 lbs. injectors. You don't need them and their not going to work right with speed density. I'm still running 19 lb injectors and have plenty of fuel. 88workcar that uses this board is a speed density expert, and he has tried every combo just about, and 24lbs. injectors would never work right for him. Just my $.02

tireburner163 12-02-2001 11:17 AM

will the B303 work with speed density? I didn't think it would.

Five0 12-02-2001 11:50 AM

My old 88 gt ran a 13.4@105 2.0 60ft with stock heads, stock ported intake, under drive pullies, chip, stock gutted cats, dynomax mufflers, 3.55 gears, traction bars, sub frames, homemade ram air, k&n, stock headers, electric fan, no smog pump, and an aftermarket coil "the old one died". I did this on cheap bfg 225/60/15's. So I would think it is entirely possible to even get it into the 12's if done right.

vande97 12-02-2001 12:37 PM

you should be able to run that cam with little or no driving problems, i have speed density and i run a little bigger cam then the b cam and it works ok, just tune it in good with the regulator and you should be good, you might notice a rolling idel a little but nothing you wont be able to deal with,

One of my best friends ran 24lb/hr injectors on his stock 87 GT with speed density.

It never cared. Ran just fine.

I think the 19lb injectors are better with an AFPR though.

I'm running 12 with this combo. I 'm running 1.7 roller rockers with the stock cam and the stock injectors. I've also removed some weight.

Thanks for your opinions guys I am taking off my heads this week and taking them to this guy. I think that the slicks will help me alot cause I spin the crap out of my drag radials, I have to leave at an idle and gradualy give it gas or they go up in smoke.

I guess that I will stick with the 19# injectors.

Thanks guys:D

Thats a great price for the porting,m heads/intake and valve job.
