What heads for <$1000??
I am planning on doing a complete rebuild on my aged 302 this winter. I'm not doing a stroker kit, but I am planning on going forced induction (blower or maybe turbo), but not right away (maybe like 2 years down the road). So I need a set of good heads that will make good power NA now, and maybe can be ported and opened up for the blower application. I don't want to spend more than a grand though. I was leaning towards Trickflow heads but someone at Crazy Horse in NJ told me that they had experience with the material being less than perfect.
Suggestions? P.S. I would buy an intake to match the heads. |
After reading an old article in a 5.0 mag I'm seriously considering a set of GT40 irons (not P's)
they had a 302 with an unported cobra intake and B cam (which i have, just not installed yet) and the GT40's made almost as much power as 11 other heads tested, including AFR's, trickflows..... so i'm thinking about getting some and porting the crap out of them. you can find them cheap on ebay or classifieds or swapmeets there really arent too many heads that will be under 1000, iron windsor jr's would be a good pick too, so would trick flows but i've heard that the places that sell the trickflows for the cheapest put in cheap valves and springs i'd get a set of bare ones and some good valves and springs and install them yourself, probably still cheaper this way sorry i wrote so much, hope it helps |
TFS TW's $900-995. I got them for myself from Saleen.

Has anyone ever experienced any problems with the material on teh Twisted Wedge heads? Or is that just a pile of crap that I heard.
I like the GT-40's as well. My brother had a set of old irons ported out and his motor screamed. If I were to find a set for cheap, I'd pick them up. The only thing that hold me back is the weight factor. I'd like to start loosing weight and aluminum heads seem to be a nice place to start. |
