Holding Power???
 

What kind of power can a stock bottom end hold? I know this question is asked all the time, but in a past few weeks I have heard numbers ranging from 400-600? I thought it was like 400 HP but I can't remember. Click Project Bird Turd in my sig to see my mods. Thanks guys your all a great help.

it should be good to about 600 sume guys make 700+ but it is pushing it 400Hp should be EZ 550 well might want to look in to getting a better ont then.

Thanks Stang Runner, so 450 is probably a good number for reliability sake then, huh? What do you think my weak point is, my stock rods?

I would definitely get a stud girdle if your going for over 400-500 hp to prevent main cap walking.

Phanton, what up neighbor! I rarely find other Massachusetts guys in here. I have a few tips for you before you start building this motor. I have had two different 5.0 Mustangs and I used both nitrous and superchargers on them. I never broke any of these engines, but I know if you want to make 500 hp or more, start with an A4, R302 or the new Sportsman 302 block. They're rated for over 650 hp, so it should be the last block you'll need to buy. After all, if you're going to spend big money on a crank, rods and pistons and put it in a "crack prone" stock block, you're wasting your money.

hey nitrous al, i know what you mean mass guys aren't always easy to find on this board... but i already have the motor built, right now its only 265 hp to the rear wheels, but as i am sure you can understand thats JUST NOT ENOUGH anymore... so while i look into my options i wanted to keep in mind what my limit is... i guess it around 400 maybe if i push it 450 but i wanna leave some room to play with still...

If you keep it under 6k the stock block is surprisingly strong, rpm and abrupt shocks kill them. You might want to check out http://www.panhandleperformance.com, their girdle fits great with a canton(POS) pan.

With a totally stock bottom end I'd say 450fwhp would be about the limit. If you have it blueprinted, balance, girdled, and get a good balancer you can push 500-550fwhp safely.
