speed density mod's

My buddy has an '86 5.0 stang with a T-5 and is wondering what mod's he can do to it without the idle surge or driveability problems. Anyone know?

He doesn't want the car for all out draggin, just a 13 sec. streetable car.

I run speed density. You can see what i have in my sig.

Are you going to go with a 65mm tb on the speed density?

Speed Density

I have speed density also, and I would not trade it for mass air.... If you get a Fuel Pressure Regulator you can bump the fuel pressure to compensate for the extra air flow...And it will run great.. There are a couple guys on this board running 12's with speed density.

I put a Vortech A-Trim on my buddies 88(need the required check valve for a Speed Density Car), also added a Cobra intake and soon a 65mm TB. He runs stock injectors with the FMU and a 190lph pump, stock regulator at 39psi. Car drives like it is stock until boost comes on, idles nice and gets great gas mileage. He has 1-5/8" shorties and a Flowmaster Cat Back.

In the future he plans to upgrade to a set of 30# injectors with a Mass Air Conversion. Should be a nice solid low 13 sec car or quicker when he adds the 3:73's.

I have SD Look at my Sig. I tink a mid 12 shouldnt be to hard with it. I would get a DFI kit (a tune able SD) before I would go to a Mass Air Not that much more Money when you need every thing, and it will be more flex able with future mods too.

When you change cams is where you really start to mess up the Speed Density. Get yourself an EEC tuner and you'll never have to worry about mass air. EVER! You can get by with heads and intake because the vacuum from the stock cam will still be within the limits set by the computer. When you change the cam is where things start to mess up. With the EEC tuner you can program and reprogram your computer over and over to your hearts content. Much better/cheaper than getting a chip and having to have it burned over each time you do a mod. That'll add up real quick. That's what the majority of us GEN 1 Lightning owners do (since all the GEN 1s are speeddensity stock). There's a few that converted to mass air and alot of those guys are going back to speed density. Get the EEC tuner. I wouldn't bother with mass air. You don't need it. Then with the EEC tuner you can mod all ya want.
