New Intake - now it whistles....
 

Im enjoying my new cobra intake and 65mm throttle body a lot. I am concerned with a "whistling" sound I hear at 3/4 throttle between 2000 - 3000 rpm. A lotta guys say that the Cobra intakes don't "whistle"...should I be worried?

its not the intake its the TB..let me guess its a bbk..well those are most notorious for doin it but others do it as well..its cuz they drill the hole in the middle wrong..nothing is broken so dont worry http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/wink.gif

if it's a bbk it's an edelbrock and they whistle i've got two friends with bbk/edelbrock and they both whistle!

YEA BBK's do that i think its cool.When i buy a t/b it will be a bbk just for that reason.

I have a 70 mm bbk on a Holley intake and it whistles loud idling.

Don't rule out a vacuum leak though. I'd check it over closely and put a vacuum gauge on the tree to make sure that you don't have a leak. Just a 'been there, done that' recommendation.

Thanks everyone (I think). It's kind of embarrasing when someone who's not a car nut is in the passenger seat says "wow what is that noise" I try to explain that I payed $189 for that noise...

Jeff: sorry to sound stupid - "put a vacuum gauge on the tree" what and where is 'the tree'?

The vacuum tree is that little do-hicky on the firewall with all the vacuum lines running to it. Its on the driver's side of the engine bay and you'll see a large vacuum hose running from it down to the brake booster. Unplug one of the caps/hoses and put a vacuum gauge on it to read what kind of vacuum your motor is pulling. You can buy a pretty decent vacuum gauge at Sears for about $15 and its a good tool to have in the garage for diagnosing engine problems. With a stock engine you should be pulling at least 16 inches of vacuum at idle and probably more like 19 or 20 inches for a well running stock engine. Any type of aftermarket cam and your vacuum will start falling from there.
