Question for anyone willing to answer
I have an auto :( LX 5.0...anyway right now I have the ram air, off road H-pipe
and flowmaster exhausts. So my nest step is gears. I was going to go with 3:73's, but I'm curious as to what my car will run in the 1/4 after I get this done. Is my run going to be worth the money? Thanks guys |
I think the gears are ALWAYS worth the money. You'll see and feel a major difference in the way your car behaves. I have had 3:73's in the past and LOVED them. Right now I'm building a '93 Cobra clone that will mainly be a street car. I probably will race it a few times a year, but nothing major. I'd like to hear some comments on 3:55's as I think I'm leaning in that direction for my "Cobra".

ive got 3.73's on my daily driven (only in summer) 90 GT. and cant be happier. you will get used to driving aroung with them.
good luck, adam |
toughlilhunny, I think you'll love them. I have 3.73's in my '95 auto. They made me very happy. I think if I was you I would also invest in a shift kit, if you don't already have one. With 3.73's a shift kit and the mods listed in my sig I go sideways when I hit 2nd gear and cherps 3rd. I was thinking about getting 4.10's, but I my car is a daily driver and gas isn't free. You will be very pleased with the gears. Hope this helps.

My car used to be an AOD, and when I got the gears, I had a smile stuck on my face for about 2 weeks straight. It was a dramatic difference and cut off about 4-5 tenths in the 1/4.
BUT, if I was to do it all over again with an Auto, then I wouldnt get anything short of 4.10's. Even with 3.73's, getting off the line with the AOD was a dogg, but once it got to about 3500RPM it started goin pretty well. Don't let the highway RPM keep you from 4.10's, its really not much worse than with 3.73's. Unless you drive long distances on the highway really often, then I'd go with 4.10s if I were you. good luck on your decision |
I used to think that 3.73's might be a little too steep. But now that they are in. I love them. If I had to do it again I would go 3.73's again. Unless I didn't have to drive on the highway, then I'd go 4.10's or even 4.30's.
Gears do wonders for your torque and put the car right in the power band when shifting. Go 3.73's without worry. |
