Smog pump locked up on me.
Damn thing turned one day, locked up the next. I need to know my options, Napa has a new one for $51 w/ exchange, but if I can bypass it for now I might do that. The money thing is getting ridiculous, I have credit card companies sending me love letters. Is there a way i can put an idler pulley or something on there, or bypass it alltogether until I can afford a new one?
Thanks, Chris |
just run a shorter belt. thats it!
route the belt like the smog pump wasnt even there. adam |
i have a short belt on because of the same problem, but my cats are clogged now, and i need to get my off road h pipe on for all that lost hp.
i passed my emissions with no smog pump, stock h pipe, and no mufflers.... |
Chris, remove it, save it, and simply run a shorter belt, this is a common thing. if you live in an area that requires emmission testing then you will need it when that notice comes, otherwise, toss it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you have stock cats, replace the pump. Otherwise, they won't get up to the correct operating temp, and will melt closed when the richer exhaust hits them.
Take care, -Chris |
Thanks guys. I pulled it off for now, I'm running and o/r x right now anyway. When I get called to test I'll pick up a new one and throw on the stock h. Thanks again for the replies.

My buddy's went out, and I think Autozone had a rebuilt one for around $20.
If not, I have the stock one off my 89. Just pulled it off last month, and I am not planning on reusing it. |
