VSS Questions...

Does the VSS in a 1992 5spd do anything OTHER than 1) Support Cruise Control and 2) Tell the IAB/computer whether the car is moving or not.

I am curious because I am replacing my rear gears with 4.10's, and getting an inline speedo calibration box to correct my speedo. But my 19 tooth driven gear will still be spinning about 25% faster. Will this do anything to my computer/drivability?

I am guessing my car will think I am going 95 when I am really only going 70 - but I don't see how that would matter...

Thanks! BOB

I don't see how it would be any different to the EEC that just having an off speedo, which doesn't affect performance. My speedo has been off in my car since I put gears in about 8 months ago. No problems here.

I'm not aware of any problems, but if you experience any, please let me know. I'm always trying to learn.

Take care,

Thanks for the info... the reason I asked was because I spoke with a guy at a speedo shop and he seemed concerned about making sure the VSS sent the computer the correct speed - as well as the speedometer. It didn't make much sense to me...

I'll let you know if I have any problems...
