Anybody know what year/model this 302 came out of?
 

Ok, I just bought a 1984 full size Ford Bronco the other day from this guy here in town. He had an extra 302 motor just laying around in his garage that has been sitting there for about 4 years he said. It was all in pieces and he was wanting to get rid of it, so he packed it up in the back of the Bronco for me. Anyway, he doesn't know what the motor came out of or what year it is. The only numbers I can find for right now are as follow:

Block: DSVE-6015-ABA It also has a BA5 on there and the number 78 on the block. Does that mean the block was made in 78?

Heads: 8A6 for one and 8A7 for the other. They both have 78 stamped on the block too.

Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.

It's a 302. It was built in 1978 and installed in a 1979 Lincoln Versaille. It had 8.1:1 pistons, and was rated at 133 hp, and 243 ft.lbs. It originally came with the variable venturi carb, and may have been equipped with an aluminum water pump and a serp. belt.

Chris, thanks a lot for getting that info for me. I appreciate it. Wow, a whole wopping 133hp! :D Thats ok, I plan on rebuilding this extra 302, with a few extra mods, and stuffing it into the Bronco. Do you think that if I was to get a set of used Mustang Heads, and get a decent intake and carb, that this motor would be suitable for the Bronco? I am not looking for serious horsepower, just something a little more than it already has. It would be a great learning experience for me to build up this motor.

Sure. just remember though, what's good for a Mustang isn't necessarily good for a Bronco. You should aim for a much lower power band. The best Bronco engine was the 300ci inline 6, believe it or not.

wow, imagine the size of that lincoln, battletank!:p yea the 4.9 i6 was a good motor, still is.

Technically a 5.0l is really a 4.9 if you round the displacement in cc's correctly.

5.0 just looks better on the fender.
