in-car head swap question?

What should the block surface look like before I put the heads on...I have scraped it with a razor blade and cleaned it with solvent - it is clean, but still discolored.

Is this okay, or should I clean it till it looks like machined metal?

thanks

Also - do the Fel-Pro 1011-1 gaskets need retorqueing after running?

Matt

I usually stuff the bores with rags or paper towels and use scotch brite pads to scuff the surface. Then make sure you vaccum any debris, it work's for me. I don't think you will need to retorque the head gaskets, I think thats for copper gaskets but I could be wrong, hope this helps.

Oh yeah, it does'nt need to look like machined metal, the discoloration is fine. The only way you will get all that off is to deck the block.
