Check Engine light & Code scanner
Hi all,
My Check engine light started flashing. So I got a code scanner and in the KEO test I got 31 Continuous memory code. The manual says this is an EGR problem. So OK, but the vehicle runs great. For example, here in Europe, I can drive all day at 80 mph plus at the same time I get 20- 22.5 miles per (US) gallon. "My pappy used to say - if it ain't broke don't fix it" So am I doing any damage to the motor if I don't fix this EGR problem? Of course there is also the fact that seeing this check light flashing on and off is driving me nuts :) Any technical experts out there who can comment? Nice day...... Marton |
I wouldn't worry much about the EGR code, I've been getting it for 6 years!! LOL And When we'd have emissions here, I'd still pass. I thought there was a way to reset that light on those cars?

The code you are getting indicates that your EGR valve isn't opening. Is the vacuum line hooked up properly? It may also just be a bad EGR valve position sensor (EVP). The EGR valve only affects NOx when it comes to emissions but it also helps bring cylinder temps down to prevent pinging.
