new best time for me

I use to have a fuel to air ratio that was wack.

I replaced the fuel pump and added a fuel pressure regulator.

Dyno still had me at an 18 to 1 ratio. And i dynoed in at 148 hp and 197 pounds of torque. Btw i have a 95 vert mustang gt with an aode.

Ran at the track, had pinging and ran a 16.3 yuck.

Cleaned the mass air flow sensor and dynoed again as i felt alot more power. Dynoed in at 202 to the rear and 275 torque.

I turned around and ran a 14.6 with a 2.1 60 and trapped at 94.75 mph. I am still feeling my way out of my launches so i know i can get a 2.0 60 or possibly a 1.9 so would a 14.3 be possible?

My current set up consists of msd 6al, 3.73's, mac cold air intake (fenderwell mount), shift kit, mac off road h, 9 mm wires, 2 chamber flows.

I am installing today as we speak mac shorty equals, ceramic coated. I have a huge header leak and am hoping to get rid of the leak and add a lil extra power over my stock leaking manifold/headers. Also a windage tray and underdrive pullies are being added today as well. Hoping for a 14.0. Any ideas or suggestions? My friend has a fox body, 90, who is all motor and almost all stock and ran a 12.8. He said i should invest in suspension. Try a roll cage since its a vert, and get some panhardening bars along with the other basic suspension ideas.

I wanna go torque converter next but am not sure what stall speed i should get or if i should go strait to suspension now like he suggests.

Am very confused and thanks in advance.

Vert 95 gt slowly getting faster.

Well, you have grs, i say get some subframe connectors welded in, a stall, and sticky tires, you should see an improved 60' with just that.

Reipen 04-09-2002 04:12 PM

my friend

said i should op for a roll cage over subrames as when i hit the 13.9 mark at the track, it will be required and it will make me stick just as much.

I dunno, still looking for opinions

I think the torque converter will be the next thing, i just need to figure out what stall speed i need.

Huh? How do you clean the MAF?

What's your definition of "almost all stock?" 12.80's on an almost all stock '90 Mustang should be in the record books somewhere. Does he race in Trophy Stock class?

Coupe5oh 04-09-2002 04:27 PM

trophy books? havent you ever heard of mustangs running 12's with drag suspension, steep gearing, intake porting? it can be done, not bye just anyone, but it can be.

I seen a guy with slicks, 4:30 grs, tremec, longtubes, stock intake ported, 69 windsor heads (iron), go 12.60's, his car had suspension mods for sure though. I heard the tb was stock on that car too, if you looked under the hood you would think it was stock.

Dark_5.0 04-09-2002 04:44 PM

The reference to the 12.80 "almost stock" is BS.......he has made some air flow and compression mods as well as some really low gears.

In one of my 5.0 mags they put slicks on a hacthback fox and dumped the clutch at 5000rpm's with a professional driver and hit a 13.9.......

In all my years at the track I have never seen anyone break out of the 14's with a "nearly stock" stang.

that lil thing that is connected to your cai

It is some sort of air sensor device that is on your CAI. Its about 3 inches by 2 inches. A rectangle. I thought it was called your Mass air flow sensor or meter or whatever. Not sure, i could be wrong. When my friend i pulled it off the CAI, it was black on one side and clean on the other indicating it was really dirty.

As far as my friend is concerned. He does have a cobra intake and a windage tray as well as a failing t-5 and pep boy's version of the flow masters.

He invested his money in pan hardening bars, torque arms, subrame connectors as well as a tubular k-frame and has 3.27 gears.

His 12.8 pass was a 2.0 60 ft and at 107 mph.

His dyno was 278 rwhp and 307torque

As far as stock is converened though, what i meant was no juice, no porting. Stock pistons and heads. He has wrapped headers but a small leak.

THe boy is a hell of a driver. He and his older brother have an 85 mustang with a 351 that they put together as kids. That thing is a beast but spends more time in the garage with the hood up then a camero does at the factory trying to get the windows fixed.

im not looking for a flame

but whether or not you call bs is your own deal.

I dont really care as i was more or less searching for some ideas about my car, not his. I have my fun at the track and he has his.

First thing is your buddy ain't flowing 278hp with stock e7 heads, if he has GT40 heads he has them hogged out in my opinion, I know guys with Twisted wedge aluminum heads a cam and and intake who dynoed at 270rwhp. I find it hard to beleive he ran a 12.8 at 107 with 3:27 gears and a 2.0 60' time. I might be wrong, but my experience is calling bs here.

Secondly the sensor your talking about is the Mass Air Flow Sensor, not the maf body, and it can get dirty and affect how your car runs. CAI stands for cold air intake and is usually used in reference to the many aftermarket models such as the BBK, Mac and Moroso units among others.

Thirdly they are not Pan Hardening bars they are a panhard bar or a torque arm and are most commonly used on road racers more than drag cars. It is also a Tubular K member, not a K frame.

As far as advice, the roll bar is not a bad idea as the chassis is already very stiff on a drop top anyway, but it wouldn't be a bad idea to do both. Suspension is very important in drag racing, the more dedicated the drag suspension the better the 60' times and for every tenth you pick up in the 60' is good for at least a tenth, sometimes more in the et. A torque converter, and sticky tires will help more than anything else right now. good luck

Reipen 04-09-2002 05:25 PM

ah my bad

talked to him a sec ago and it seems that he has aluminum non ported heads and an e303 cam

my bad!

Heh, as far as the panhardended and panhardening, whatevers clever. There are so many freaking terms its hard to keep up. I didnt really give a rat's tail end about cars untill my truck got stolen and i used the money to buy a 2nd car. The vert 95 gt that i have now. I bought the mustang as my friend has the 90 fox body although he is pissed that i didnt get a fox body, let alone the fact that i got a vert aode.

I am having fun learning more about my car and mustangs in general. The greatest joy was getting my car down from a 16.3 to a 14.6 just by cleaning the mass air flow sensor on my fenderwell mounted mac CAI.

I think ill do the torque converter next and then do the roll cage since it is required for all verts that run a 13.9 and lower.

I figure with the pullies, headers (especially with the leak that im eliminating) and the windage tray along with the torqe converter that should drop my 14.6 to a 14.0ish and even below.

Im still babying the thing out of the hole and am getting a 2.1 60 so i know i can get lower then a 14.6 with what i got now.

Will see.

My only question is what stall speed should i get for the converter.

91GTturbo 04-09-2002 05:54 PM

Most tracks aren't going to push that 13.9 vert rule, especially if your right around 13.9. Install some good subframes, forget the roll cage for now. Save that money for more mods.

As far as what stall converter, look into something between 2500-2800.

7up 04-09-2002 06:53 PM

Your supposed to have roll cage if your running under 14 at the track? That sucks.

Reipen 04-09-2002 07:06 PM

well

they are enforcing those rules so that they can keep all the 14+sec cars to 2 lanes and the other 4 lanes for demestics and the very few fast ricers. There are about 450-500 cars on the open track nights, and its getting out of hand. So they are trying to clean it up for the people who actually invest alot of money in their car into making it into a track car rather then having some ricer with 3k in body mods run a 17 1/4 mile.

So with that in mind, anybody with 13.9 and lower must have a helm, and any verts 13.9 and lower must have a roll cage.

OUTPLAYN 04-09-2002 07:15 PM

Well let me just say this......I am going to get my car into the 13's with touching anything in the motor... with an AOD
