new motor is in and ready to tear except...
Just dropped in my keith craft 306 equipped with TFS heads, TFS stage 1 cam w/ 1.7 rockers, TFS street intake, 24# injectors, 190 lph fuel pump, pro-m 75mm MAF, etc. I started the engine and it ran for about 30 seconds and idled very rough between 900 and 1100 rpm. The car then stalled. Each time I start it, it will not idle at all. I must keep it at about 2000 rpm to keep it running. I have the fuel pressure at around 40 psi. I know the distributor is in correctly too. Is my fuel pressure too high or is it something else? I don't know where to go from here. Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help!

is the mass air boot tight? is the mass air connected? is the idle speed connected? do your basic checkover of all the connections

Sounds to me like it isnt timed right. I bet you are a tooth off.

have you tried to adjust your timing?
your car will need to idle higher than stock so you may need to adjust your idle screw. is your TPS set to around .95 volts? are all of you vaccum hoses connected... connected to the right ports? have you tried adjusting your fuel pressure any higher or lower while the car is running? are your plug wires connected to to the right plugs? these are a few variables that are worth looking into. i had the exact same problem when i first started my engine after adding my heads, cam, etc. car used to idle at about 700rpm (stock) now it's boosted up to 900rpm. i also had to adj. my fuel press high (currently running 19lbers but will add the 24lbers soon), and adjust my TPS (throttle position sensor) down to .95 after doing these things, my car no longer dies and idles just fine. |
I checked everything over twice and all is good. I got the car to idle fine. However, it only idles when i start it up cold. If i shut the car off and start it again it will start but won't stay idling. Do any of you guys know what this could be? My timing is pretty advanced but i have not had a chance to actually stick the timing light on her yet due to a coolant leak from my lower intake. Thanks for the help!
