anyone did a carb conversion and still used stock ignition system????
Just curious, i am doing a carb conversion right now and was wondering if there was a way to still use the computer and stock ignition system to power the car??? Or do I have to go ahead and buy a new ignition box and coil and Distributor. the car is a 88 buy the way.
thanks vande |
If there is a way to do it, I haven't heard it. The stock ignition, as you know, has no ability to advance the timing without the ECM, and the ECM needs input from all of it's sensors to operate properly. If it has no injectors pulse width to control, it's not going to be able to control the richness of the exhaust, and would continue retarding the timeing until the engine quit running.

ya, i kind of figured that. I just was not sue if there was away that someone might have been able to do it or not. I guess i was thinking with my pocketbook instead of my brain:)..lol
