79 pace car engine

I am thinking of taking on some what of a project/resto. I want to build a 79 pace car but have some "perfomance" mods to it....
Here is what I am thinking for the engine tell me what you think, or if it is possible.

1. 87 GT heads**ported (if they will fit???) (recomendations)
2. four barrel carb set up (stock 83-85 intake**ported) 650 holley carb
3. b 303 or e 303 roller cam
4. the block rebuilt, balanced and blueprinted

what do you think this will run (hp, torque)
please keep in mind I am building this to be a cruiser not a drag car....

thanks for any info

If you are planning a rebuild with a roller cam, you should get a roller cam motor. If you buy a rebuildable 87-up you will get seasoned roller block. If it only need a hone, they you have the forged pistons for the reliefs.

If you do some porting on the E7 heads, cam, and carb with good exhaust, you should be able to do 250 RWHP pretty reliably.

Is a roller cam out of the question for an 79 motor or is it just cheeper to buy the 87 up block?

I am not an expert on the subject, but I am sure others with pre-roller engine can speak with more authority....

You can run a roller cam in that engine, but you will need to get a roller cam conversion kit. I don't think they are cheap, and if you are planning on running E7 heads, then it may be better for you to get a whole 87-92 motor.
