quick t-56 question

Just a couple of questions, Is it possible to take a t-5 and take the fifth gear out and put another one in with a different ratio, say a lower one. See I put 3.73's in and I love em to death. But commuting makes me nervous at 70. I just feel uneasy about the 2500 cruise... And I really don't want the overkill of a t-56.

Thats not too high, but regardless, thats why I always say 3.55 max! I believe it would be possible, but I don't know of anyone who makes such a gear. A t-56 wouldn't help you, it just adds another ration in between. On a t-5, your rations are 1:1 4th and .68 in 5th, the t-56 has 1:1 4th, .8 5ht and .62 6th. Little difference there in the final drive (.68 vs. .62) but I don't think it's enough to make any appreciable difference.

Why in the world would you feel uneasy by a 2500 cruise rpm? I have 3.73's in my car and it's no big deal. Now, when I had 3.23's in my '66, the 70 mph cruise was closer to 3500 rpm or there abouts. No overdrive. Overdrive is there less to reduce engine wear than it is to help the newer cars pass the stringent CAFE numbers.

the termec t56 has a .62:1 ratio, most other t56's have a .50:1 6th gear, so you san run really steep gears(4.30-5.13) & still cruse at a good speed
