Crossroads

1 Attachment(s)
Okay guys, I need some help.

I'm at a crossroads with my car. I bought this car for $2,000. Had it painted for $600. and about another $300. in badging and acessories. (Pics)

I have to replace the heater core, (or bypass it, it'll be a summer car only, anyway) the e-brake wire to the separator, and it's leaking trans fluid.

Underneath, by the nose cone of the trans, there is a metal (gasket?) with a 1'2" 90 degree bend on the bottom. This is where the trans fluid is coming from.

Car has flowmasters w/ x pipes, underdrives, new tires, and saggy doors with 129,000 miles. Loud and fast.

Should I keep it and how much to fix my leak or should I sell it for about $2,800?

I've probably already decidid, but please reinforce my decision... :p

Thanx,
Joe

I find it difficult to let go of the little fellers! I have had 7 and as you see in the sig own three currently, the paint job looks good and the car looks in good body shape for the miles it has on it, I say, bypass the core, replace the brake cable, it should be that much and get the tranny leak fixed at a shop! Good luck either way!:)

Fix it

A heater core is about $50., to repair the saggy doors: a door hinge repair kit is $30. and the trans may just need a minor fix - not sure - but worth a few minutes with a transmission shop to find out.

Old cars will always need things repaired, it's normal, even on a Mustang.

If you like the car and can do these jobs for minimal labor costs (your labor is free) then by all means, keep it.

Another $2,800. car is only going to have a new list of things to be fixed. Why not take care of the 'Stang?

Just make sure and keep the fluid level up until it's fixed, mine leaked until it broke, now i keep an eye on my new one, although it doesnt leak, cuz it's new,

yea a body shop could probaly repair the doors at a decent price, not sure, but like mentioned above, do it yourself and save money, my car has 188K and still looks real nice, im sure someone before me refreshed the door pins, and kept the car up.

Okay-

Pins: $50.00
Heater Core: Summer Car=Bypass
Trans: Mercon, Turkey Baster, and 15 minutes.

Lighting up tires in third gear?
Can you really, I mean really put a price on that?

I know I have to keep it, just wanted to have someone tell me I'm a moron for selling it.

Thanks, everyone.
I'm going to go home and apologize to my car tonight.

:D

good owner! my cars would be proud of you, I will tell them this tail tonight!

UglyFast88 05-22-2002 04:22 PM

Ha ha.

Share it in volumes. Except now you'll have to endure years of dumb questions.

(Not as dumb as "should I sell it?")

The tide turner was the guy who called me this morning on it and said "Okay, thanks for the info. I'm looking at a Geo Prizm tonight, and if that doesn't go well, I'll call you back..."

I shuddered to think of my car sentenced to a life of hauling groceries back and forth at 35 MPH.

That reminds me of screaming scenes in movies with Social Service agencies removing kids from their parents...

... I couldn't stand to see my car crying. Or wait- maybe my car would be pissed and I would be crying. Anyway, the whole scene is embarassingly unnerving to me.
