5.0 rebulid cost

I'm starting to budget for a winter '02-'03 rebuild for my engine.
Am planning on a freashened re-bore,(10-30 over) with some better pistons, cast iron head up-grade (Rousch?)and a street cam, with header upgrade.
Anyone do this recently, and what was the finished cost?

It's an '87, 120,000 mile, 5spd, and runs great with nothing apparently wrong. Everything bolted onto the long-block has been freashened, rebuilt or replaced. Just want a good freash engine for the next 100,000 miles.
In the Detroit area.

well are you gonna be assembling the shortblock yourself or not?

If you are gonna have someone else do it, then you might wanna just look into buying a complete shortblock. After all of the cleaning, honing, balancing, etc, it would be about the same price as getting a base shortblock (between $1500-1700 or so)

Thats what I plan on eventually doing. It just seems like alot less hassel.
The only bad part is that you can never be exactly sure of the quality of work going into it. Not that you can guarantee that from a machine shop either though, but it would probably be a safer bet from someone you have worked with in the past.

good luck,
