mexican 302 block info??

I want to build a stroker for my 302 and have heard something about the mexican block being stronger then the more recent 302 that was in the fox and sn-95 model. Is this true? How can I go about finding one? I thought about going to a salvage yard but I didnt know if they would be able to tell the difference either. If I were to find an older vehicle with the 302 how can I tell if its a mexican build? Thanks

Going Mexican

The 'Mexican ' block being stronger (due to higher nickle content) is somewhat of a myth but if you want to go hunting for one the letters MF are by the distributor hole. The 'F' is made by attaching the two horizontal lines to the last vertical line of the 'M' and the words: 'Hecho en Mexico' are stamped in the lifter valley also.

Again, I don't think it's worth the trouble as a main girdle, ARP bolts and a well-balanced assembly should handle 500 + HP in a 302 block, but since you asked, I thought I would offer the information I had handy.

hey thanks for the info. I have heard about them being stronger but just wasnt really for sure. I already have the 302 block that is out of a '85 mustang. Originally I wanted to stroke it to a 347 but I have been hearing that they dont hold up as well. So maybe I will go the 331 route. This car is gonna be a daily driver so I want to make sure I am doing the right thing.
