Is there a Clutch/Starter interlock switch on an 82 GT?

I can't find one in the wiring diagram and cannot find one on the car. I've been told I'll fail tech at the track unless it's working, but if I don't have one then what? Help Please!

Well i can't tell you if you have one or not because i really don't know about your year car (i know later ones have the switch on top of the clutch pedal if i'm not mistaken) but an easy way to find out is to put it in 1st gear, put throttle to half way and try to start the car [make sure you're on a road with space ahead http://www.mustangworks.com/msgboard/smile.gif] if it starts lugging forward and/or starts and drives then you don't have one.

My 82 Capri didn't have one but my 83 Stang did.(tranny switch). The new ones have clutch switches as 84stanglx pointed out.

I did some research and they did not put the switch on until halfway through 1983 (at the same time they started using 5 speeds instead of 4 speeds for a manual tranny). I've already tested for it and that was why I was looking for it. I still don't know what to tell the tech inspector though...

I just emailed the NHRA tech department, I'll post what they tell me.

Funny enough, my 82 had 4sp and my 83 had t-5.

Tech would probably want one. Best bet is to get a clutch switch and put it on yours. Wire it through the crank/ignition wire on the starter relay. While your at it add a kill switch.

According to the tech guy that emailed me back the rule only applies to automatic tranny cars. They would like you to retain the Factory switch if so equipped. I probably won't bother putting one in unless they bounce me from the track just because I hate trying to work under the dash.
